Saying “Yes” to God as our first priority, and others second, requires a confidence that God takes care of us. This confidence comes through surrender to the One who has demonstrated His faithfulness on the cross. If He loves us enough to sacrifice Himself for our great benefit, can we trust Him to transform our hearts and our character through surrender to Him as we live in obedience to His teachings? Dr. Dennis Kinlaw, in This Day with the Master offers the following scriptural reflections on the life surrendered to God’s care.

      2 Corinthians 5.14-15;18-21

For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

In our journey of transformation and sanctification, God wants to give us a heart like His. As we increasingly discover His purity and righteousness, He helps us understand that “He is not our enemy. He is our friend. He is not one to flee from: He is the One we want to be like. At this point, we begin to pray, ‘God can You not merely save me, but can You also change me?’ Answering that prayer is just what He is wanting to do for us.”
